Adam Levine will wear anything that looks “real” to him, even a pink sweater.
The Maroon 5 frontman is constantly in the spotlight, not only for his music but for his role as a coach on the U.S. series of The Voice. With millions of viewers tuning in to watch him on the show, Adam relies on stylist Matt Goldman to dress him to the nines, though the fashion expert tries to make it look as though it's all the singer's doing.
“As long as the looks are real to him, he’ll do it,” Matt told Billboard of his client’s outfits. “He’ll push himself to wear a pink sweater. And then the next day, a suit. And then the next day, a s**tty sweater. And the best part about Adam is if you didn’t know I existed, it looks like it’s all him every day. That’s what I love. It doesn’t look like somebody dressed him.”
Adam often brings his own garments to the table as well, once keen to rock the surfer-style trend after bringing back Hawaiian shirts from Japan. This is one of the reasons why Matt enjoys collaborating with the 37-year-old musician so much; he loves how open Adam is to trying new things and sharing his own ideas, no matter how quirky they are.
“Normally celebrity clients have and want to maintain their one image because they’re doing album packaging,” Matt explained. “But when you’re in the public eye and on camera as much as Adam is, you actually can do more things. Most people would be afraid of that, but he loves it. Every season I’ll usually get a one word text around midnight. Or he’ll call me from somewhere to say, ‘Hey, I was thinking English football stud.’”
