Billy Bob Thornton never felt good enough for Angelina Jolie throughout their three-year marriage.
The actors, who wed in 2000, split in 2003, just after Angelina had adopted her first son, Maddox.
The Pushing Tin stars remained friendly after their divorce and Billy Bob has always been pleasant about his ex, even during her romance and failed marriage to Brad Pitt, but now he admits he knew the relationship could not last because he and Jolie were too different - he preferred to stay at home while she took meetings with world leaders, activists, and Hollywood heavyweights.
"I never felt good enough for her," he tells GQ magazine. "(Plus), I'm real uncomfortable around rich and important people."
The 61-year-old, who is married to his sixth wife Connie Angland, still sports a tattoo of Angelina's name on his leg. Another tattoo on his arm is covered up, but he says, "You can still see the name."
Billy Bob has refused to comment about Jolie's impending divorce from Brad, but he recently opened up about his marriage to his ex, admitting it was a wild time in his life, full of ridiculous headlines and bizarre tales.
"It was a crazy time, I've never been fond of it," he told The Hollywood Reporter last month (Oct16).
"The vial of blood (story) is very simple. You know those lockets you buy that are clear and you put a picture of your granny in and wear it around your neck? She (Jolie) bought two of those.
"We were apart a lot because she's off making Tomb Raider and I'm making Monster's Ball (and) she thought it would be interesting and romantic if we took a little razor blade and sliced our fingers, smeared a little blood on these lockets and you wear it around your neck just like you wear your son or daughter's baby hair in one. Same thing.
"From that, we were wearing quart jars of blood around our necks. And we were vampires and we lived in a dungeon."
