Melissa McCarthy gets “real weird” when working away from her family.
The comedy actress and her husband Ben Falcone have teamed up on five projects over the years, including funny flicks Bridesmaids and Spy, with their sixth offering on the way. In 2018, fans will see Melissa directed by her spouse in Life of the Party, in which she plays a housewife who returns to college and ends up in the same class as her daughter.
Thanks to having so many joint projects, Melissa is rarely away from her loved ones.
"We pick up and move like a tribe. We don't separate well," she told Entertainment Tonight. "I get real weird without Ben and the kids. I get real squirrely. It's too quiet... After 45 minutes of quiet I'm like, 'Where is everybody?'"
The couple take their daughters, nine-year-old Vivian and Georgette, six, with them everywhere they go, as they think it’s important for the girls to know the only reason their parents can’t be with them is because they’re shooting a movie.
It’s an even bigger family affair in Life of the Party, as Melissa and Ben’s fathers have cameos alongside the main cast, including the likes of Julie Bowen, Christina Aguilera and Maya Rudolph, with whom Melissa co-starred in Bridesmaids.
"It's a little surreal to have my dad and then my father-in-law (Steve) yelling at Maya Rudolph and I in the scene, but it's really funny because they are getting into it," Melissa laughed of the feature, written by herself and Ben. "The more we do it, the longer their improvs get. I'm like, 'Alright guys, wrap it up.'"
