Vetements, Marques ' Almeida and Simone Rocha are just some of the brands featured in Nordstrom's new winter collection.
The U.S. chain of department stores opened concept shop Space in 2015 to help boost the profile of up-and-coming designers, as well as boasting pieces from big names like Comme des Garcons and Junya Watanabe.
With Christmas (25Dec16) fast approaching, Olivia Kim, Nordstrom's director of creative projects and the brains behind Space, has launched a capsule collection for the holidays available exclusively through the concept shop. Made up entirely of winter-white pieces, customers can get their hands on garments such as a white Vetements Antwerp hooded sweater, a frayed white denim dress and jacket by Marques ' Almeida and fluffy mules by Brothers Vellies.
“I’ve always loved all the various interpretations of the holidays and what they mean to so many different cultures, so by creating a capsule around white, it seemed so fresh and renewing - like a clean slate,” Olivia told Vogue.com. “And it reminded me of snow!”
While some of the designers created clothes especially for the lines others simply re-created some of their most popular designs, including the Vetements offering. However, all of them will be available exclusively through Space, with the line available online and in select locations now.
“Our customers want something special and not as widely available to the masses,” Olivia added. “I’m less interested in day pieces (being reserved) for 9-to-5, or evening being defined to after 8:00 p.m. Wear a cocktail dress over a T-shirt and jeans to work, and then gussy up those jeans for a night out.”
She's also pleased that fans of the department store are familiar with the fashion stars involved, describing the target audience as "fashion-focused, connected, aware, and beyond curious".
