Rag & Bone venturing into eyewear market

Rag & Bone has signed a deal with Safilo Group to add eyewear to its offerings.

The brand, run by Marcus Wainwright and David Neville, will be distributing spectacles and sunglasses produced by the eyewear manufacturer starting in 2018 after agreeing on a five year contract, taking them up until the end of December 2022.

Men’s and women’s lines will be available via Rag & Bone’s website and stores around the globe, as well as in department stores and opticians.

“An emphasis on quality and an attention to detail have always been deeply ingrained in Rag & Bone’s DNA, and Safilo follows that same philosophy,” Wainwright told WWD. “Both of us share a dedication to expert craftsmanship and a history of working with some of the most supremely skilled manufacturers.”

Safilo’s chief executive officer, Luisa Delgado, is confident that by teaming up with Rag & Bone, her brand’s designer profile will grow and benefit from the “trendy and experimental” label.

Safilo also creates eyewear for famed fashion houses Dior, Fendi, Givenchy and Jimmy Choo.

Delgado also notes how this collaboration will present Safilo with bigger business opportunities in the U.S. and U.K., where Wainwright and Neville hail from.

“The brand speaks to a very precise target through its distinguishing combination of British understated heritage and modern, edgy New York-inspired design, and commitment to impeccable craftsmanship from the finest materials,” she explained in a statement. “Thanks to our recently established New York-based design studio, we are able to capture with precision such new directional design, and cross-fertilize it across our worldwide design studio network.”

The venture comes after Rag & Bone added perfume to its offerings, launching eight unisex fragrances earlier this month (Oct16).
