Ronda Rousey: 'I am retiring in the near future'

UFC champion Ronda Rousey is hanging up her gloves in the near future.

The mixed martial artist insists her fight showdown with Amanda Nunes on 30 December (16) will be one of her last.

"I'm wrapping it up...," she told talk show host Ellen DeGeneres on Tuesday (01Nov16). "So everyone better watch. The show isn't going to be around forever."

The 29-year-old has been training hard for her next bout, but she explains the anticipation of the upcoming fight is more daunting than the physical aspect of it.

"I think it's more the buildup that's tiring more than anything else," she continued. "If we had a fight right now, I'd fight and then go get dinner and I wouldn't feel really tired about it.

"It's the weeks and weeks of buildup where you know you're fighting this one person and it's, like, this showdown and the most important thing in your whole life and then there are millions of people watching. It's that buildup for weeks on end. If it happened right now, I wouldn't be nervous. It's the waiting."

Last year (Nov15), Rousey faced off against Australian Holly Holm and suffered the first professional loss of her career. The two fighters are reportedly planning a return to the ring for a rematch, but the fight has yet to be scheduled.

Meanwhile, Rousey is also focusing on her acting career after appearing in the last Fast & Furious movie. She will star in the upcoming Road House remake.
