Sofia Vergara and her actor husband Joe Manganiello have reportedly engaged a surrogate in California to carry their baby.
The actress allegedly couldn’t face months of invasive IVF treatment so has turned to surrogacy, an option she has previously stated she was keen on.
“Sofia’s saying it’s a miracle,” a source told Britain’s Heat magazine. “She has been desperate for another child (she already has son Manolo, 24), and has no doubt Joe will be the perfect dad.
“But the truth is, Sofia couldn’t face months of IVF treatments and praying for good news – it would have been too much heartache. That’s why they decided to find a surrogate to carry their child.”
According to the publication the surrogate is due to give birth early next year, and 44-year-old Sofia is reportedly struggling to keep the news of her impending motherhood a secret. She has reportedly been telling friends she’s planning to have “two or three children” and wants them to follow in quick succession.
“They are so excited about becoming parents and are decorating a nursery and discussing names,” gushed the source close to the couple. “She’s not very good at keeping secrets. Joe just laughs and rolls his eyes when Sofia gossips about their baby plans. She says she and Joe want two or three kids – and they want them all to be close in age.”
Sofia’s alleged baby news comes days after another court appearance for the star in an ongoing bitter battle with her former fiance, businessman Nick Loeb, over two fertilized female embryos which the couple had frozen. Nick is fighting to have the embryos implanted in a surrogate while Sofia wants them to be destroyed amid fears Nick is using them in an attempt to profit off of her celebrity.
Last year The Modern Family star admitted she and her 39-year-old husband were keen to start a family following their wedding, but she felt that because of her age, she would need some help.
“I’m really borderline at my age to do it. And if I’m going to do it, I would need a surrogate. I’ll need help. But I don’t mind it,” she stated.
