Whoopi Goldberg may soon be adding holiday footwear to her Christmas sweater offerings.
The actress dipped her toes into the fashion world earlier this month (Oct16), unveiling a line of "ugly" Christmas sweaters. It seems Whoopi has now caught the design bug, and she could soon be following in the footsteps of fellow actresses like Kate Hudson and Reese Witherspoon by launching her own fashion empire.
“I’d love to design holiday footwear,” she admitted to The New York Times. “I’d love to design housewares. If you’re going to have things in the house, you might as well not be bored by them.”
Whoopi’s line of 11 Christmas jumpers are in partnership with department stores Lord & Taylor and Hudson’s Bay. Future ventures may see the Oscar-winner team up with more high brow collaborators though, with 60-year-old Whoopi confessing she’s a huge fan of Moschino boss Jeremy Scott - a designer known for his bold and fun creations.
“Anyone who wants to have some fun and do something different,” she said of her dream collaborators. “I love watching Jeremy Scott because he collaborates with lots of different people. Rihanna is collaborating with this one and that one. When you’re looking at the kinds of things people are doing and what’s out there and who they’re reaching out to, I think to myself, ‘What would that look like if I were doing it?’
“We forget that people over 45 have money also, and they want to dress well. And you want to make it so they look cool in the stuff they’ve got on, as opposed to looking very odd in stuff that’s too young for them. Older folks are out there.”
